Islam is a major force in Indonesian social reality. It is present in every facet of life, and mediated through every available medium. At the same time, violence against women a serious social problem in Indonesia. In 2013, there are 280.000 reported cases. Amidst these increasing number of violence, the media frequently represent women in stereotypes. These portrayal is just another violence against women, i.e., cultural violence. This research aims to investigate Islamic representation of women in mass media, specifically television, through three drama series that runs on Ramadan.
